Furry Conventions Help Me Stay Gold

One of the toughest things about having the opportunity to do the work I do is to stay gold. Although I’ve met far more people who are helpful and kind than those that are bad mojo, it’s really easy to get jaded if you’re not careful. It’s good to be aware of these things, especially if you live in a place full of as many talented people as Silicon Valley.

My situation reminds me of how little the people living in Berlin appreciated how great the music scene was there; I think living in California for a few months would surely cure any ungrateful Berlin attitudes they had towards any of their clubs, producers, DJs and musicians!

You never know how good you have it! Really.

I randomly ran into a San Jose Furry Convention, Further Confusion 2012, and what can I say? I haven’t been so happy in my entire life in a while! Wow! I went to the closing club night, the Dead Dog dance, and it really brought out the happiest part of me!

I’m so used to begging guys to free up, to dance, to move with happiness and to lack concern for others’ opinions when dancing. Only when that happens does great dancing IMO occur. This is especially difficult with most men, because they’ve been raised in a weirdly emotionally messed up way so that when a lot of American men hit the dance floor they feel compelled to act purposely stupid and do gross things out of a blinding fear of showing their emotions. It’s really silly.

But the furry convention… wow! this was the first time I saw people being so free with their bodies, especially men. It made me almost start crying. It was so beautiful. I think I’m also furry inside because I’ve drawn what I guess are furry comics. Wow! I really really thought I was the only one.

Much love and thanks to making me stay gold!
